The Best Local Resources for Expectant Moms in Riverside County

By Tayna Chessman, LM, CPM · Birthstone Midwifery · Serving Murrieta, Temecula, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake & Riverside County

One of the things I love most about serving families in Southwest Riverside County is the incredible network of perinatal professionals that exists right here in our community. From Murrieta to Temecula to Menifee and Lake Elsinore, expectant families have access to exceptional local support — you just need to know where to look.

This guide is designed to walk you through the kinds of local resources that can make a real difference in your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. While I recommend connecting with individual providers directly to find your best personal fit, these categories are a great place to start your search.

Lactation Consultants in the Temecula-Murrieta Area

Breastfeeding support is one of the most impactful resources a new parent can access. An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) can help with latch difficulties, low milk supply, engorgement, nipple pain, and the overall breastfeeding relationship. When searching for a lactation consultant in Riverside County, look for the IBCLC credential specifically — it represents the gold standard in lactation care.

Many lactation consultants in the Temecula-Murrieta corridor offer in-home visits, which can be especially valuable in the early postpartum weeks when leaving the house feels monumental. As your midwife, I provide early breastfeeding support at every postpartum visit — but having a dedicated IBCLC on your care team is always a worthwhile addition.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists

Pelvic floor physical therapy is one of the most underutilized but transformative resources available to pregnant and postpartum people. A skilled pelvic floor PT can help with:

  • Pubic symphysis pain or pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy
  • Preparing the perineum for birth
  • Diastasis recti (abdominal separation) postpartum
  • Urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse
  • Scar tissue care after a cesarean or perineal repair

I encourage all of my Riverside County clients to begin pelvic floor PT during the third trimester — not just after birth. The investment pays dividends for years.

What to Look for in a Pelvic Floor PT

Search for a licensed physical therapist with specialty training in women's health or pelvic health. Many practices in the Temecula-Murrieta-Menifee area offer this specialty. Ask specifically about their experience with pregnant and postpartum clients and whether they offer prenatal perineal preparation sessions.

Perinatal Chiropractors

Chiropractic care during pregnancy — particularly from a provider trained in the Webster Technique — can significantly improve comfort, reduce pelvic and back pain, and support optimal fetal positioning. Many of my home birth clients in Murrieta and Temecula see a Webster-certified chiropractor throughout their third trimester, and the difference in labor progress can be remarkable.

Postpartum Doulas

A postpartum doula supports your family after birth — with newborn care education, household help, sibling support, and emotional processing. This is different from a birth doula (who supports you during labor). In the Temecula Valley area, several experienced postpartum doulas serve Riverside County families. If you are planning a home birth, I am happy to help connect you with trusted colleagues in my network.

Mental Health Support for Perinatal Families

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) affect up to 1 in 5 pregnant or postpartum people. Having a therapist who specializes in perinatal mental health on your care team — especially one familiar with Postpartum Depression, Postpartum Anxiety, and Birth Trauma — is an investment in your wellbeing and your family's wellbeing. Many therapists in Riverside County now offer telehealth sessions, making access easier than ever.

Community Birth Classes in Southwest Riverside County

Childbirth education is another cornerstone of a confident birth experience. Whether you choose a hospital-based class, an independent Hypnobirthing course, a Bradley Method series, or a Spinning Babies workshop, the education you receive before birth shapes how you show up to it. I offer personalized birth education as part of my prenatal care model — but community classes offer the added benefit of connecting with other expectant families in your area.
