When your labor begins, Birthstone Midwifery is with you every step of the way. Families throughout Riverside County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego receive continuous home birth labor support, with close communication by phone or text as things progress. Together, we’ll decide when it’s the right time for me to come to your home to check on you and your baby.

You are always in charge of how you labor. Whether you prefer to be in the tub, on your bed, walking, swaying, or tucked into a quiet corner, I work around your rhythms and your comfort — not the other way around. Home birth allows you the freedom to labor in the ways that feel safest and most natural to you.

As you move closer to birthing your baby, a trusted birth assistant (who is also a licensed midwife) will join us to help monitor you and your baby and to support the steady flow of your home birth.

After your baby is born, I provide immediate postpartum care right in your home, making sure both you and your baby are stable, well, and gently settled in. I remain on call for families across Southern California throughout the first six weeks postpartum, so you have ongoing support as you heal, adjust, and get to know your new little one.

In those tender early weeks, leaving the house for multiple appointments can feel overwhelming. Birthstone Midwifery provides in-home postpartum and newborn care for families throughout Riverside County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego, bringing as much of your postpartum care as possible to you. This allows you to heal, rest, and bond with your baby at home while still receiving thorough, professional support.

Your postpartum care plan includes:

2–3 home visits in the first week after birth to check on your physical recovery, your baby’s well-being, feeding, and emotional support.

A home visit at 2 weeks postpartum to continue monitoring healing, newborn feeding, sleep, and family adjustment.

A home visit at 4 weeks postpartum to support your ongoing recovery and answer any questions that arise as you settle into life with your baby.

A 6-week postpartum visit in the office, where we complete your final routine postpartum exam, discuss long-term wellness, and formally wrap up your midwifery care.

Because six weeks is still very early in the postpartum journey, you will also have access to additional as-needed postpartum visits during your baby’s first year. When new questions, challenges, or transitions arise, Birthstone Midwifery remains a steady source of postpartum and newborn support for families across Southern California.

Birth is deeply personal, and while there is so much we can do to support a safe and physiologic home birth, birth itself is not something we can control. On occasion, circumstances arise where giving birth in the hospital becomes the safest or most supportive option — even for otherwise low-risk pregnancies.

If at any point during pregnancy or labor a hospital transfer is recommended, you are not left without care or guidance. Birthstone Midwifery works with you to make these decisions thoughtfully, calmly, and with your informed consent at the center.

When a transfer is needed during labor, I accompany you to the hospital whenever possible and remain with you as a continuous source of support and advocacy, helping you navigate the transition and maintain continuity of care. Your preferences, voice, and emotional well-being continue to matter deeply during this time.

Importantly, a change in birth location does not change the care you receive afterward. All planned postpartum and newborn care with Birthstone Midwifery remains the same, so you continue to receive consistent, familiar support as you recover and bond with your baby.

Planning for flexibility is part of honoring birth — not because we expect complications, but because being prepared allows you to move through whatever unfolds with confidence, support, and compassion.

With Birthstone Midwifery, you’ll receive the full course of standard midwifery care for home birth, including:

Once a month until 28 weeks

Twice a month from 28–36 weeks

Weekly from 36 weeks until your baby is born

Each prenatal visit typically lasts 45–60 minutes, giving us plenty of time to discuss your health, your baby’s well-being, your birth preferences, and any emotional or practical support you may need. Prenatal care appointments are intentionally unhurried, and extra visits can always be added if something comes up or you simply need more time and reassurance.

Around 36–37 weeks, we will schedule a home prenatal visit with your birth team, so everyone can become familiar with your space, review your birth plan, and ensure you feel calm, prepared, and confident welcoming your baby at home.
