Pumping & Bottle Feeding Classes — In Person & Virtual, Covered by Insurance
Whether you plan to pump exclusively, supplement, or return to work — a class before your baby arrives makes the difference.
Pumping and bottle feeding are skills most families figure out on their own — often at 2am, with a crying baby and a pile of parts they are not sure how to assemble. Birthstone Midwifery offers dedicated pumping and bottle feeding classes for families in Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, and across Riverside County so you are not starting from zero. Classes are taught by a Licensed Midwife with extensive lactation experience, available in person or virtually. Most major insurance plans cover this class — including Kaiser, IEHP, Medi-Cal, Health Net, Blue Shield Promise, Anthem, Community Health Group, and UnitedHealthcare.
Every Feeding Family Benefits from This Class
You do not need to be planning to exclusively pump to benefit from this class. Families who plan to breastfeed may still need to introduce a bottle — for a return to work, a partner feeding, or a planned absence. Families who plan to formula feed benefit from understanding bottle technique, paced feeding, and how to reduce gas and feeding difficulties. Families who are not sure yet benefit from knowing all their options before their baby arrives.
This class is also for families who breastfed before but struggled with pumping — those who want to understand why pumping felt difficult last time and what they can do differently now.
Pumping output is one of the most misunderstood aspects of infant feeding. This class gives you an accurate picture of what pumping can and cannot tell you about your supply — and what actually matters.
Class Topics
This class covers pumping equipment, technique, schedule, storage, and bottle introduction — everything you need to feel confident before your baby is born.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have my pump already to take this class?
It helps but is not required. If your pump has not yet arrived, the class still covers everything you need to know so you are ready the moment it does. For in-person sessions, we have demonstration equipment available.
I am planning to breastfeed — do I still need this class?
Yes — most breastfeeding families will use a pump at some point, whether for occasional relief, stash building, or return to work. Learning to pump correctly before you need to makes the transition significantly smoother. This class also covers bottle introduction, which matters for every breastfeeding family that will ever use one.
Can I take this class if I plan to exclusively formula feed?
Yes. The bottle feeding portion of this class — paced feeding, bottle selection, how to feed a newborn safely, and how to recognize hunger and fullness cues — is valuable for any family regardless of what goes in the bottle.
When should I take this class?
Between 30 and 36 weeks is ideal. If you are planning a return to work, we recommend pairing this class with a return-to-work feeding consultation for comprehensive planning.
Is this covered by insurance?
Yes, for most plans we accept. Verify your benefits here to confirm your specific coverage before enrolling.
