Most childbirth classes hand you a curriculum. Rooted Birth Preparation hands you a midwife. Over three Wednesday evenings, we sit together — in person or live on Zoom — and build your birth plan from the ground up, section by section, decision by decision.

Every topic we cover is connected directly to a real choice you will face. By the time we are done, you will not just have a birth plan — you will understand every word in it, know why each choice matters, and feel genuinely prepared to advocate for yourself in any birth setting.

Each session is three hours, held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 PM on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Week One

Your Body Was Designed for This

We begin with the foundation — understanding how your body is built to give birth. From the hormonal blueprint of labor to the physiologic design of each stage, you leave with a clear, confident picture of what birth looks like when it unfolds naturally. Then we open the Motherboard Birth app together and begin building your plan.

Week Two

Moving Through Labor

2nd Wednesday · 6–9 PM

This is where your birth plan comes alive. We work through comfort measures, positioning, pain management options, fetal monitoring, and obstetric tools — and you make your actual choices as we go, with full understanding of the evidence, the pros, the cons, and your alternatives. Week Three

Birth, Baby, and Beyond

3rd Wednesday · 6–9 PM

We finish strong — covering pushing and birth, the golden hour, newborn medications and testing, immediate postpartum, and the fourth trimester. You complete the final sections of your Motherboard birth plan and leave with a finished, personalized document you fully understand and can hand to any provider or nurse with confidence.

Meet Tayna
Chessman

I am a California Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife serving families in Temecula, Murrieta, and throughout Riverside County. I founded Birthstone Midwifery on the belief that every family — regardless of where they birth — deserves care from someone who genuinely has time for them.

I created Rooted Birth Preparation because the most powerful thing I can give a family before their birth is not a list of facts. It is the confidence to make their own decisions — and to walk into their birth knowing why they made every choice in their plan.

This class is the education I wish every family I have ever attended could have had.

Frequently Asked

Do I need to be planning a home birth to attend this class?
Not at all. This class serves families planning home births, hospital births, and birth center births equally. The evidence is the same regardless of setting — and the choices in your Motherboard birth plan cover all three environments. There is absolutely no pressure toward any particular birth choice.
What are the exact session dates?
Sessions run on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6 to 9 PM. When you register you will be confirmed into the next available cohort. Contact Tayna directly to find out upcoming start dates.
Where are the in-person sessions held?
In-person sessions are held in Temecula, California. The exact venue address is provided upon registration. Parking is available and the space is welcoming and comfortable for couples.
Can my partner attend?
Yes — and they should. The series is priced per couple and partner participation is strongly encouraged. Session 2 includes hands-on partner support practice, and your partner will leave with real tools and confidence for labor day.
How far along should I be when I take this class?
The ideal window is between 24 and 34 weeks, though any time in pregnancy is appropriate. Starting earlier gives you more time to process what you learn. Starting closer to your due date is still very valuable — the content is practical and immediately applicable.
Is this class covered by insurance or HSA/FSA?
Childbirth education is generally an eligible HSA and FSA expense. Insurance coverage varies by plan. Contact your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage. Tayna can provide documentation for submission purposes upon request.
What if I miss one session?
Life happens. Contact Tayna and we will find the best solution — whether that is a makeup session, catching the content in the next cohort, or supplementing with a virtual session. The goal is that you leave with everything you need.
Is this the same as a one-on-one virtual consulting session?
Related but different. Virtual consulting sessions through Birthstone Midwifery cover any topic on an à la carte basis. Rooted Birth Preparation is a structured three-part series that builds toward a completed birth plan. Both are valuable and many families choose to do both.
