Why It Matters

Prepared Parents Have Better Births

Childbirth education is not about eliminating fear — it is about replacing fear with understanding. When you know what your body is doing and why, when you recognize the stages of labor and know how to work with each one, and when your partner understands their role, the entire experience shifts. Families who attend childbirth classes report feeling more confident, more in control, and more satisfied with their birth experience — regardless of how the birth unfolds.

Our classes are taught by Tayna Chessman, LM, CPM — a Licensed Midwife who has attended hundreds of births. The education you receive is not textbook theory. It is practical, clinical knowledge grounded in real birth experience, presented in a way that is warm, accessible, and deeply respectful of every family's values and birth goals.

Every birth is different. Every family is different. Our childbirth classes are not one-size-fits-all — they are designed to meet you where you are and prepare you for the birth you are planning.

What You Will Learn

Course Topics

Our childbirth classes cover the full arc of labor and birth — from early signs through immediate postpartum — with equal attention to the physical, emotional, and logistical dimensions of the experience.

The Stages of Labor

Early labor, active labor, transition, pushing, and the third stage — what is happening in your body at each phase, how long each stage typically lasts, and what helps most at every point.

Comfort Measures & Pain Management

Breathing techniques, positioning, movement, water therapy, counterpressure, and the role of epidural and other medical pain relief options — presented without bias, with honest information about each.

Your Birth Environment

How to create a supportive labor environment — whether at a hospital, birth center, or home — including how to communicate your preferences to your care team and what to include in your birth plan.

Partner & Support Person Coaching

Your support person is an active participant, not a bystander. We equip partners with specific, practical tools — what to say, what to do, and how to stay grounded when labor gets intense.

Medical Interventions & Informed Consent

Induction, augmentation, assisted delivery, and cesarean birth — what they are, when they are recommended, what the alternatives are, and how to ask the right questions before agreeing to any intervention.

Immediate Postpartum & Newborn Care

The golden hour, delayed cord clamping, skin-to-skin, initial newborn assessments, and the first feeding — what to expect in the first hours after birth and how to protect that time for your family.

In Person or Virtual

Choose the Format That Works for Your Family

Both formats deliver the same comprehensive curriculum and the same quality of instruction. The right choice depends on your schedule, location, and learning preference.

Option One
In-Person Classes
Held at our Temecula office for families in Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, and Southwest Riverside County. In-person classes allow for hands-on practice of comfort measures, positioning, and breathing techniques — and give you the opportunity to meet your educator face to face. Partners are always welcome and encouraged to attend. Class size is intentionally small to allow for personal attention and real conversation.
Option Two
Virtual Classes
Available to families anywhere in California via secure video. Virtual classes cover the full curriculum and include live Q&A, partner coaching, and access to supporting materials. Families who have relocated, have inflexible work schedules, or simply prefer to learn from home find virtual classes equally valuable. Insurance coverage applies to virtual classes the same as in-person sessions.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I take a childbirth class?

Most families enroll between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy — late enough that the material feels immediately relevant, but early enough that you have time to practice and prepare before your due date. We can accommodate earlier or later depending on your situation.

Should my partner attend?

Yes — partner participation is one of the most valuable parts of childbirth education. Partners leave class knowing how to provide comfort, how to communicate with the care team, and how to stay grounded when labor becomes intense. We actively include partners in every session.

Is this class appropriate for a planned cesarean birth?

Yes. Childbirth education is valuable for any type of birth. We cover cesarean birth in depth — including what to expect on the day, how to communicate your preferences, and what the immediate postpartum period looks like after surgical birth.

Do you offer private classes?

Yes. Private one-on-one or couples childbirth education sessions are available for families who prefer individualized instruction at their own pace. Contact us to arrange a private session in person or virtually.

Is this class covered by insurance?

Childbirth education is covered by most major plans we accept. Verify your benefits here to confirm your specific coverage before enrolling.
